The Promise of Wilderness Therapy provides information needed to make decisions as to whether Wilderness Therapy is right for you, your family, or group. It offers an easy to understand history on the origin of wilderness therapy (something very few might know!), and helps one to understand the difference between the hard facts of this therapy and what is merely marketing hyperbole. This book was written in 2008, but continues to be a valuable resource for parents, teachers, facilitators and trainers. This is some of the last of the hard copies* of a great work by Jennifer Davis-Berman, Ph.D and Dene Berman, Ph.D.

Chapter 4 - Anecdotes and Theories: The Transformative Power of Wilderness Therapy - is an invaluable resource in the form of brief but solid explanations for the following: Social Learning Theory; Theories on Self-Esteem; Transpersonal Theories; Systems Theory; Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - citing others research such as Kaplan, Jung, Rotter, Maslow, Rogers, to name a few.

The Berman's created a masterpiece with the writing of The Promise of Wilderness Therapy, and yet they offer the following caveat: "...It's contents in not intended as a definitive guide, but has a resource." And a fine one it is.

About the Authors: Dr. Jennifer Davis-Berman is a Professor of Social Work. She received her Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. Dr. Davis-Berman has practice experience in medical and psychiatric social work.

Dene Berman, Ph.D., ABPP, a Board Certified Clinical Psychologist, Health Service Psychologist, and APA-Certified Substance Abuse Psychologist, is the Clinical Director of his own practice: LifeSpan Counseling Associates. He is Clinical Professor at the School of Professional Psychology at Wright State University.
